Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) Russia is one of the oldest and most popular medical universities in the country. History of KSMU: The foundation of the medical institute was laid in 1935, with the inaugural batch of students beginning their studies in September of the same year. Although construction of the university buildings continued, the first cohort of medical graduates completed their education by 1940.
During World War II, from December 1941 to January 1944, the institute was temporarily relocated to Alma-Ata, where it operated as part of the Kazakh Medical Institute. It resumed operations at its original location in 1944.
Originally established as Kursk Medical Institute in 1935, it was elevated to university status in 1994.
In 2020, the International Medical Institute was launched as a new division of KSMU. This institute builds upon the university’s decades-long experience in international medical education, which began in the early 1990s.
